Bay Side - Port Palacios, TX

Those are shrimp boats you see and this is the Bay Side RV resort in Port Palacios, TX. The folks that own and run the park are locals and own a number of the shrimp boats anchored nearby. This works great because you have access to the docks where you can try your hand at fishing.

We were fortunate to find this park, and we enjoyed out visit. If you like being right on the water this is the place to be. We road our bikes into Palacios and had a look around. A number of the homes go back to the early 1900's and the waterfront is much more than small towns this size normally have to offer. There's a large pravillion on the waterfront that has been blown apart several times by hurricanes and each time until now rebuilt. The downtown is sadly a ghost town.

Park features include high-speed Internet and cable TV. The bathrooms are fine, but there is only one for the ladies and one for the men. The showers are large and there is plenty of pressure.

There is a general recreation room that would work fine for cards and parties. This is not a large park so it probably serves just fine. A notice board in the rec room makes mention of a fish feed on Friday afternoons - wish we were going to be around.

The site itself is certainly acceptable and provides full hookups; but, you're really here for the ambiance and this place has that in spades. The neighbours are a large number of shrimp boats, and sure enough you can purchase shrimp from the fishermen. We did ours on the BBQ.

Met Brian and June from Oakville who are also traveling in a Roadtrek.

If you are a member of Passport America a premium waterside site is $15 a night.
