Super Inspector

The first person to proofread my copy was Wally Brooks, proofreader extraordinaire. Her trick was to read everything backwards. She rarely missed a mistake. The first time Wally caught one of my errors was back about 1965.

Lately, the person who checks my work is my friend George Hepburn. After university, it was this kind of work George did (but, at a slightly higher level than following writers like me around). At Atomic Energy he was probably called a technical writer. Like Wally, George has the ability to pick 'fly poop out of pepper' when in comes to published text.

When I'm not in a hurry, I most often go over what I write, and then if I'm lucky George casts an eye over it. Sure enough, he generally finds stupid little errors that I just don't see. No question, the man has a talent. I mention him here just in case anyone gets the notion that I actually know what I'm doing. If you find errors, it's only because George hasn't seen the copy yet.

Lesson in life - always have someone check your work.

I readily acknowledge George's talent, and thank him for taking an interest in my projects.
