What you are seeing in this picture is a vehicle that astronauts will probably use someday on the moon and maybe even Mars. On the day we visited the space center (March '09) it was heading out for some practice in an area setup for driver training. The man steering is a real astronaut and he's heading over to an area that simulates the moon's surface. It was all very exciting. We weren't the only ones taking photos. The men in the picture were not tourists.
If you're in Houston and want some good entertainment that is also very educational head out to the space center. We spent most of the day and certainly were never bored. We did the tram visit of the site and then caught a number of educational movies and a briefing on a current mission. There were also plenty of other displays...the place is worth every penny and you come away thinking some pretty positive thoughts about the space program. Here are some other photos.
